While the home is often the safest haven for children, Safe Kids Worldwide reports that more than 4.5 million children are injured in the home each year - nearly 420 of them drowned in or around the home. One place to practice safety at home is by protecting little ones while they're in the bathroom.

Here are a few tips for bathroom safety with kids.
Remember to lock medicine cabinets. Even general household chemicals and over the counter drugs are hazardous materials that should be put away and locked up where children cannot access them. Children often mistake medicine for candy.
Install toilet locks. Because a child's weight is concentrated in the top half of their bodies, when they lean into a toilet bowl, they may lose their balance, fall forward and drown in as little as 1 inch of water
Remove sharp utensils and appliances. Razors, scissors and blow dryers are better kept in an adult‘s bedroom, locked out of children's reach.
A baby‘s skin is 15 times thinner than an adults, so always double check the temperature of the water before putting your child into the bathtub. Test water by placing your elbow or forearm in the water. It should feel ‘just warm‘ to you. Then it will be warm enough for your child. (This will be body temperature, about 37 degrees Celsius or 100 degrees Fahrenheit.)
Use a non-slip mat for toddler and young children at the bottom of your tub. Encourage children not to stand or jump in the bathtub.
Children should never be left unattended in, around or near water.
