Fires and burns rank as the fifth leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 14 and under. Each year, more than 570 children ages 14 and under die in fires and nearly 40,000 are injured. With the help of the Danger Rangers you can create a fire safety program for your kids.
Here’s some fire safety tips that will empower your family to be DANGER RANGER Ready when it comes to Fire Safety:
Install smoke alarms in your home on every level and in every sleeping area.
Test alarms once a month, replace the batteries at least once a year and replace the alarms every ten years.
Plan and practice two escape routes out of each room in your home. Designate an outside meeting place.
Take your children on a local fire station tour so they understand that firefighters are there to help. Children often hide from firefighters because their uniforms and equipment can be frightening.
9. Remove anything too close to a fireplace, heater or radiator, such as clothing, furniture, newspapers or magazines.
Keep matches, lighters and other heat sources out of children’s reach.
