Internet Safety Tips

The internet is a vast and exciting resource of information, education and entertainment. For kids, the internet also poses potential dangers. With some tips from the Danger Rangers, you'll learn how to help keep your kids safe when they're on the internet.

The DANGER RANGERS offer some effective safety tips that will help kids stay safe while they are on the internet!

Teach your child to never give personal information over the internet, such as his/her name, address, telephone number, password, parents' names, any club, team or organization they are part of, or school name.
Keep your child's computer in an open area of your home and find out what other computers and devices children may be using outside of your home.
Establish rules about the computer in your home and an agreement with your children about Internet use at home and outside of the home.
Talk to your children about the dangers of chat rooms. If you do allow your children to chat on Instant Messaging programs, know who is on their buddy list.
Implement filtering tools and secure the family computer by regularly updating the operating system, and installing a firewall. Make sure to keep up-to-date virus and anti-spyware software on your computer as well.
Important tip! Make sure you keep your internet passwords private, even from friends!
There is nothing better than a good story that puts things into perspective; these on the Internet are fantastic.
